What is Laughter Yoga?
This form of Yoga * in Vedic Sanskrit, yoga (from the root yuj) means "to add", "to join", "to unite" (with "oneness"), through the practice of intentionally and deliberately laughing, without the use of jokes or wit.
In fact, we are training the body to laugh as an automatic response to life and its challenges, in order to cultivate the "inner spirit of laughter", and shift our state of being to a more joyful, playful and positive life perspective. Cultivating joyfulness from the 'inside out', as opposed to depending on external events to trigger happy feelings.
A laughter yoga class provides a space to laugh out loud in a free, expressive and uninhibited way. It combines playful laughter exercises with pranayama (deep breathing techniques), laughing meditation and yoga nidra (guided relaxation).
It is an energizing, uplifting and restoring workout for everyone who would like to elicit feelings of playfulness, cultivate a positive state of mind, improve health and vitality, tap into creative energy, exercise the diaphragm, loosen the jaw, shed inhibitions, improve circulation, boost endorphins and add more joy and fun into life.
Laughter clubs around the world have been created to assist people to make a commitment to laugh regularly. When we laugh regularly we change! Laughter changes our very nature since it accesses the subconscious mind and makes positive shifts. It connects us with our own source of creativity, and enlivens and inspires us to lead a joy-filled life.

What is Laughter Dance?
Laughter Dance™ has been developing itself slowly over the years from my own love of dancing. The movements and ideologies of this dance form have been inspired by African dance, Contact Improvisational dance, Biodanza, Ecstatic dance and Indian laughter yoga.
It is all about playfulness, freedom of expression, joy-filled affirmation, returning to primal and tribal instincts, releasing, eliminating, simplifying and connecting with ourselves, others, life.
This upbeat dance class combines laughter and voice with simple dance routines to rhythmic African and Indian musical drumbeats. It is an uplifting playful exercise workout which shakes off stress and builds happiness
- a fusion of laughter yoga exercises
together with free form dance movements -
This type of dance is about free expression; meaning that an ideas, suggestions and intentions for the movement are provided, and the dancer is then free to express it in their own way, both physically and verbally. This is a form of 'movement therapy', as the dance floor provides a safe space for releasing and eliminating all that is old, activating and awakening all that is inherent, and inviting, declaring and affirming all that is new.
Certain of the dances are guided by the facilitator, others comprise of gentle suggestions, and a few are directed by the dancer according to his own desire and intent.
Open to all ages and fitness levels; pace and movement range can be adjusted to harmonize with personal comfort level.
